Web hosting needs vary depending on the kind of features required. For an individual, the requirements may not be much. However, for a large business, a number of special software are required. Estimating these UK web hosting needs is the first step to be taken before finding a suitable web host. The two basic factors to be considered are disk space and bandwidth. Disk space – The amount of disk space required depends on the size of the website. Texts hardly occupy any space, but images and flash require more space. Ideally, a website should be under 50-60 KB including flash and images. Thus in 1MB of space, 20 pages can be hosted.

For 200 pages, 100MB of disk space would be ideal. Bandwidth – The amount of data transfer allowed to and from a web server is called bandwidth. This includes both FTP and HTTP uploads and downloads. This not only depends on your web page size, but also the number of visitors per day and the number of pages that they visit. If the average page size is 50KB, there are 20,000 visitors per month and they visit 5 pages on an average, about 5GB of bandwidth is required per month.
